LAKE GEORGE, 3:47 PM (ON MY BIRTHDAY FOUR YEARS AGO,)

LAUREN ELMA FRAMENT

we split the lake in two

& cut               /

        all this water

still sloshing between us

        even now, i don’t think

it was my holiest

        goodbye

& if it was        /

        you are still

there / except now

        flourishing at the age

i was when i practiced

dying /             but you will live

through 17 & feel

alive enough to tell about it

& we will divide this lake

        again & still again

        like strangers

              & family
