DISPLACEMENT OF THE BODY

ALEXIS BATES & LOGAN FEBRUARY

I think of resurfacing,        hip-first
because my torso is emptied & needs
to dry. I leave no ripples.

If it is sacred to walk on water, my feet
are unhallowed. My body is all limb
        no insulation     all hair
                                  all shiver. The diagnosis,
heavy with the weight I’ve lost,     sinks toward me
again.

Recovery bends with, never breaks,
the surface —

& I go missing for days on end.
