JEN ROUSE

In this tank, I knock out the lights,
lurk above the surface with just my
miraculous shimmering eyes. Though
we split and split again, where we meet
is at reflection. I will make our exchange
an elaborate game of mirrors and mischief.
Some nights I will slip down the sides
of this glass and watch you from
the back row. Your movement so cumbersome
and amusing. I have broken the
reward system experiment so many times,
yet you keep replacing the lever. Stupid
fucker, I hate sardines and the shape
of your hands. How often will
you come so annoyingly close that I am
forced to spray you with water? Bend
down one more time. Let me explain
which one of us is being held captive.
