EMERGENCE OR THAT TIME I TOLD MYSELF I USED TO BE GOD
RENEE CHRISTOPHER
What if I ain’t come out
my daddy skull, my
daddy mouth like them
Olympians? What if my
mama told me the
truth―that men ain’t
necessary? I swallowed
salt crystals just for fun,
but I could eat this planet
whole. Between her legs I
return to beginning &
ain’t that what a poem is:
if one day I met another
me.
I ain’t no god of mercy.
Worship how I’m made.
because something born
could never fuck like this.
This form is for making,
where the bomb becomes
a place to breathe in a
poem & fuck means
make means give means
pause; if I bothered to
give a fuck, my birth
would end this world.
